Khazana unearthed at Oberoi, Mumbai

Mumbai, July 15, 2015 – In the dramatic interiors of The Regal Room, the most talented Ghazal singers will perform together on a single stage for a noble cause. Celebrating fourteen glorious years of soulful melodies, The Oberoi, Mumbai presents “Khazana” a festival of Ghazals, to raise funds for Cancer Aid and Thalassemia awareness. 

The Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA), the Parents Association Thalassemic Unit Trust (PATUT) and The Oberoi, Mumbai will raise funds for Cancer and Thalassemic patients and children through an annual event that provides a rare opportunity for Ghazal aficionados to experience the rich and vibrant performances of India’s top performers on 24th and 25th July , 2015

‘Khazana – a Festival of Ghazals’ is a concept over fourteen years old, which began as a platform for Ghazal artists to showcase their talent to an audience that appreciated their musical talent.

“When Pankaj Udhas offered us the partnership of this unique concept over fourteen years ago, it seemed to fit in perfectly among the efforts The Oberoi, Mumbai has undertaken over the years to raise funds with a little help from the artistic community in the city of Mumbai. Whether it is the Terry Fox Run that raises funds for the Tata Memorial Hospital or Project Saksham to support SOS Children’s Village Alibaug, The Oberoi, Mumbai has always maintained a supportive and proactive citizenship in the city” says Mr. Devendra Bharma, Executive Vice President, The Oberoi group. “Being a festival that will feature India’s foremost Ghazal singers, The Oberoi, Mumbai is both honoured and proud to host this event and will endeavour to continue supporting causes and events that assist the less fortunate in Mumbai.”

Says Pankaj Udhas, “Through Khazana, our intention is to introduce the future of Ghazals to the audience; hence the theme chosen is ‘From Legends to Gen Next’, He further said that the art of ghazal singing and poetry is an integral part of our culture. Khazana is a festival of Ghazals which is dedicated to this form of art for a cause.

“On this special occasion we have created a retrospective of ghazals and nazms  by way of a medley consisting of some of the most prominent  and popular ghazals and nazms till date. This medley will be presented by a galaxy of artists” adds Pankaj Udhas.

This year, “Khazana” will feature a multitude of talents including Shri, Anup Jalota, Smt.Rekha Bhardwaj, Shri Talat Aziz, Shri Javed Ali, Pt Ajay Pohankar and Abhijit Pohankar, Mr.Sandeep Batraa, Mr.Sudeep Banerjee, Smt. Shivani Vaswani, and young performers Aishani Banerjee, Rashi Harmalkar and Varenyam Pandya and the ever lasting  Shri Pankaj Udhas.

The proceeds of the two evenings will be used towards the continued care and rehabilitation of patients suffering from Cancer and Thalassemia.


Donor cards for the event are priced at Rs. 5000/- per day and are available only at Rhythm House from 16th July, 2015 onwards.


All proceeds from the event will be donated to Cancer Patients Aid Association and Parents Association Thalassemic Unit Trust. After the resounding success of last year’s concert that generated funds to the tune of Rs.60,00,000. The Oberoi, Mumbai, along with Mr. Pankaj Udhas, once again joins hands with these two organizations to mark another milestone in this artistic endeavour.
